THE COLD WAVES OF CHINA

  • Abstract. The cold waves of China are discussed under the following five headings: 1. The tracks of cold waves. It is found that the tracks of cold waves are closely related with the geographical features, and on the main they av oid the mountains and plateaux and follow the open plains and richer valleys. The velocity of travel is greatest when passing through a wind-gap or a narrow valley. 2. The monthly distribution of cold waves. Cold wave invasions begin earnestly in the month of October and last right until the next 1VYay. November and December have the greatest frequencies of cold wave burst.
