Abstract
In the present paper the. effect of the variation of the Coriolis parameter with latitude in Kibel's theory is disscussed. It is found that it has little effect on the pressure variation; however, it influences the steering velocity greatly. The average height of the steering level over several stations in China and Japan is calculated. In the winter north of certain latitude it is very uniform around 5 km and it slopes sharply upwards south of this latitude. In summer the sloping belt of the steering level. shifts north.
