THE DISTRIBUTION OF MEAN ZONAL WIND AND MERIDIONAL CIRCULATION IN THE FREE ATMOSPHERE UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF GIVEN HEAT SOURCE AND LARGE SCALE MIXING PROCESSES

  • In this paper,a semi-empirical study of the distribution of mean tonal wind and meridional circulation is presented.Rossby's1 original idea concerning the influence of large-scale horizantal mixing processes on the tonal wind is more or less clarified and extended to baroclinic atmosphere by means of two-layer model.Improvement of the model for further studies is also discussed.
