Abstract
The numerical predictions for northern hemisphere by the primitive barotropic equations are tested in this paper. The finite difference scheme for centered differences in space and time is adopted. The boundary condition is fixed in such a way that along the boundary the heights are assumed to be invariable with time, and the winds vanish. The initial wind fields are determined by the geostraphic approximation and Kibel's second geostrophic approximation. Four actual weather forecasts Eor 24 hours are presented. The results show that in general the barotropic processes in these examples are forecasted.
