THE SPIRAL STRUCTURE OF THE PLANETARY WAVES IN THE EARTH ATMOSPHERE

  • Frum the system of dynamic equations describing the large scale motion of the atmosphere, the "Grand Picture" of the spiral structure of the planetary wave in the earth atmosphere is obtained and discussed. The spiral structure of the planetary wave is three dimensional. It shows logarithmic distribution both along the meridional and vertical directions. There exists a phase speed condition for the spiral planetary waves. The structure of the spiral planetary waves depends on the phase speed of the waves. The spiral planetary waves are dispersive. The formation of the spiral planetary waves is mainly due to the differential rotation along the meridional and vertical directions, and the variation of Coriolis parameter with latitude.
