BADIATIVE FEATURES IN THE RAINSTORM

  • Long-wave cooling rate and short-wave warming rate during the heavy precipitation in Beijing are calculated by the parametric method. In the day time, the cloud-absorbed short-wave energy causes a maximum heating about 6℃·day-1 in the rain cloud cluster. The maximum warming rate occurs in the upper troposphere between 300 and 400 mb.The vertical distribution of radiative heating is very similar to that of convective heating.Long-wave cooling in cloud and subcloud layer over the rain area is less than that in the surrounding clear area. That causes a relative warming in the lower troposphere over the rain area. There is a relative large cooling on the top of the cloud due to long wave radiation. This factor acts more strongly in the evening,6 hours before the so called "night rainstorm".
