Abstract
The sequence of essential Northern Hemisphere weather events concerning the seasonal transition in early summer 1979 is summarized, based on the recent works of the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau Meteorological Experiment. The trigger role of the Southern Hemisphere is stressed. In the light of this, the similarities and differences between the Mei-yu in China and the southwest monsoon in India are discussed.
