Abstract
The influences of orography on the solitary Rossby waves are discussed using a barotropic atmospheric model. The results show that the orography is an important factor exciting solitary Rossby waves in a flow without shear. The effects of orographies with different height scale are different. Two different patterns of solitary Rossby wave are obtained using numerical calculation.
