LARGE OROGRAPHY AND BAROTROPIC SOLITARY ROSSBY WAVES——WEAK QUADRIC SHEARING BASIC FLOW

The basic flow with meridional shear plays an important role in the forrnation of solitary Rossby waves. Different shears of flow can excite different stream line patterns of solitary waves, and the orography with variable slope is also important factors of formation of solitary Rossby waves. The solitary Rossby waves caused by weak shearing basic flow and orography with small variable slope are mainly of rneridional wave number one and two.
