Abstract
By using a band-passed technique and a statistical method, lagged correlation between 500hPa heigh field during winter and sea surface temperature(SST) in the tropical Pacific Ocean is investigated. It is showed that the influence of SST in the various region (e.g.west,middle and east Pacific Ocean) on the atmospheric circulation in the middle and high latitude is different. At the various latitude (or longitude),the correlation signal propagates regularly east (south) and west (north). Its propagation direction and region depend on the location of SST anomalies.Because of a lower speed about 80-210 longitude/2 years or 60 latitude/2 years,it must not be the classical Rossby wave.It is a new wave which results from sea-air interaction.
