THE INFLUENCE OF CONDENSATION HEATING ON FRONTOGENESIS

  • A two-dimensional semigeostrophic frontogenesis model is used to study the influence of the condensation heating and frictional dissipation on frontogenesis circulation. Several numerical experiments are performed. The results have shown that the frontal circulations can be affected greatly by latent heating and friction. This study has shown that the large-scale condensation heating is more effective than convective condensation heating on frontogenesis. In particular the large-scale condensation heating.has' much more effects on vertical velocity than convective heating. It is also found that friction increases convergence in the surface boundary layer at front, but above there is condensating divergene whose effect is frontolytical. When the moist processes are included, the vertical velocity increases very much.
