USE OF DOPPLER-RADAR DATA IN IMPROVING SHORT-TERM PREDICTION OF MESOSCALE WEATHER

  • A variational method for retrieving wind vector from single-Doppler wind measurements is developed and the initial forecast fields are created from the retrieved winds.A numerical experimentst of orecast a squall-line storm system passing through the Oklahoma State is performed by using the Advanced Regional Prediction System(ARPS) developed by the Center for Analysis and Prediction of Storms(CAPS) at the University of Oklahoma in the United States. The experiment shows:the Doppler radar data can be used to improve the analysis of the initial fields and short-term numerical prediction of mesoscale weather.
