Abstract
An interm ediate-level resolution at mosphere model and a global tropical two-layer ocean model are forced by observed SSTA and FSU pseudo-stress anomal yrespectively. It is found that the model simulations agree well with the observations to a certain extent. The model simulations in the Atlantic region corresponding to the observations are better than that in the Indian region. The results demonst rate that the simulations of meridional wind anomaly in the at mosphere model are more similar to the observations than the simulations of zonal wind anomaly. The effects of the simulations in the West Atlantic region and in the central-east Indian region are better. It is also indicated that the SSTA's inter-annual variability within the eastequatorial Atlantic Ocean and the westequatorial Indian Ocean is simulated very well. The dipole mode events of the equatorial Indian Ocean can be captured very well, too.Soaglobal tropical interm ediate coupled model(GICM) can be devel oped based on the two models described above.
