IMPACT OF HORIZONTAL GRID ON ROSSBY WAVE

  • In the paper, the computational dispersion properties of six different Arakawa A-E and Z grids for approximation of the quasi-geostrophic, beta plane approximative equations,are analyzed in terms of frequency and group velocity characteristics,respectively for unresoluble and resoluble models. Results of the test for the Rossby Wave shown that for resoluble model Z,D and C grids have the best dispersion characteristics among all grids considered;but for the unresoluble model all grids have worse ones.
