EFFECTS OF COUPLED TIME STEPS ON SIMULATING ENSO PERIOD

The effects of coupled time steps on the simulating ENSO period are studied by using an Intermediate Couple Model(ICM).The results show that the simulating ENSO period depends on the coupled time st eps.Because of the different coupled time steps,the simulating ENSO periods may be changed from irregular one to regular or vice versa.Meanwhile the growth rate and propagating direction of the variables of atmosphere and ocean in the coupled system are sensitive to the coupled time steps.
