Review and Progress of Research on Tibetan Plateau Summer Monsoon and Its Impact

  • As a crucial member of the Asian summer monsoon system, the Tibetan Plateau Summer Monsoon (TPSM) significantly influences the energy and water cycle of the Tibetan Plateau (TP) by regulating the spatial and temporal variations of the summer circulation and precipitation over the TP. Research on the TPSM and its climatic effects not only contributes to a deeper understanding of the abnormal mechanisms of the plateau"s summer circulation but also holds significant scientific importance for improving the prediction of the TP"s summer climate. Consequently, research on the TPSM has garnered extensive attention. In this paper, we reviews the research on the TPSM from various aspects, including its inception, variation characteristics, and influencing factors. Furthermore, the paper organizes recent research progress on the TPSM from perspectives such as the climatic characteristics of its establishment and retreat, the between mid-to-high latitude atmospheric teleconnections and the TPSM, and the climatic impacts of the TPSM. Lastly, the paper offers an outlook and discussion on the scientific issues that remain to be resolved in the study of the Tibetan Plateau summer monsoon.
