A review of Research Progress on Numerical Model Verification and Evaluation in China

  • Evaluation is an important componentSin the development and application of numerical models. In recent years, as the models have grown increasingly complex, so too has the demand for fine forecasting, leading to rapid advancements in model verification and evaluation methods. This paper begins by surveying the research progresses in numerical model evaluation and verification both domesticallySandSinternationally. ItSthenSdelves intoStheSsignificant contributions made by Chinese scholars in recent years, in the evaluation of the dynamic framework of new generation numerical models, the multi-temporal and spatial variability of East Asian monsoon, and the assessment of weather and climate around the Tibetan Plateau. With precipitation identified as a key process, theSpaper offers an in-depth review of the evaluation efforts concerning precipitation diurnal variation and process evolution. Finally, it suggests the future potential research directions, including the integrationSof multi-source observation data, the development of evaluation techniques tailored to various models and applicationScontexts, and the synergySbetween model evaluation and machine learning technologies.
