Abstract:
The aim of this paper is to study the longitudinal movement of a subtropical anticyclone cell in relation to the feature and structure of the anticyclone itself, and to develop method by means of which the movement of subtropical anticyclones can be computed. The velocity formula obtained, shows that the velocity of longitudinal movement is determined by the characteristics of latitudinal distribution of the zonal currents and the feature and position of the anticyclone itself, and that it even varies from point to point within the anticyclone. The movement of the anticyclone center is particurely investigated, and the application of the velocity formula in daily forecasting work is illustrated by synoptic examples. By the way, the physical effect of the activity of westerly troughs and wedges in high latitudes and tropical depressions in low latitudes, and the effect of the variation of the feature and intensity of anticyclone itself, on the movement of subtropical anticyclones are also discussed.
