Abstract:
By use of the at mospheric symmetric and antisymmetric motion theory, the effects of atropical dipole-like diabatic heat forcing(antisy mmetric about the equator) upon the the formation and maint ainance of Cross Equatorial Flow(CEF) have been qualitatively analyzed with a primitive equation model. The results show that the antisymm etric diabatic forcing has influences upon the CEF through inducing and maint aining the antisy mmetric pressure field. That is to say,a low level depression and an upper level high would be generated over the heating area, and the opposite pressure systems over the cooling area, and the associated CEF in the direction of the corresponding long itudinal pressure gradient over the equat or would occur.
