Abstract:
This article is a short review for a series of studies of a Rossby wave pattern (OKJ wave pattern) that frequently occurs in Eurasia in summer (especially in early summer). The features, the impact scope and the status of the OKJ wave train in summer were discussed. This paper pointed out that the OKJ wave train was characterized by a steadily quasi-stationary state and quite long decorrelation time scale. Its influence was able to spread to Eurasia directly and to North America indirectly. Sometimes, the OKJ wave train will interacts with another famous wave train (PJ), which plays a key role in affecting the large scale atmospheric circulation in East Asia. In addition, it is shown that the OKJ wave pattern is an important index for climate prediction and, the further study directions are suggested in this paper as well.
